A characteristic beauty of the Yuki clan, often mistaken for a girl both due to feminine appearance and choice of clothing. Owns a variety of kimonos he wears about the village, and out onto missions when he can get away with it. The bodysuit beneath is considerably more practical. When it's time to take things seriously, he can easily slip out of his outer layer.. but he's more likely to simply leave if pushed to that point.

The Yuki clan has long been plagued with tragedy, a family feared even in the blood-soaked Village of Mist. The nature of their kekkei genkai makes them uniquely suited towards one thing- war. Shinobi are often treated as killing tools, but few techniques are as acutely focused on the act of taking lives as the Ice Release. In return, even the Bloody Mist shows disdain for the members of this clan. They might not openly hunt them down, but it's easy enough to exclude, deride, and leave them behind at any given opportunity. [break][break]
Such treatment is how Arata's mother Kasumi passed when he was very young, leaving him alone.
[break][break]
An unwed Yuki kunoichi who unexpectedly ended up pregnant after a fling with a man from a more 'reputable' clan, she worked her hardest to try and support the two of them. For a member of the 'cursed' clan, her mastery of the Ice Release was middling at best. A lack of confidence and experience made others view her as unreliable. During a mission in enemy territory, the other two members of her three-man cell left her behind after an injury. According to the official mission report, she was KIA, but word of mouth got around pretty quickly. The worst part? No one seemed especially bothered outside of the family. Who would risk their life for a defective weapon, after all?
[break][break]
Left orphaned at the age of seven, an uncle took him in, though he never really felt like he belonged there. The loss of his mother and the callous way the rest of the village seemed to view it stuck with him. Did their lives mean that little? Did the rest of the village truly distrust them that much, just because they had uniquely destructive power? His mother had always told him his father wouldn't stay with her because of the standing of their clan. Now, the village had deprived him of his only other close relationship. Even at a young age, the experience began to mold him.
[break][break]
Arata's youth beyond that was often considered 'blessed' by the rest of his clanmates. In spite of his tragic start, he grew to be cheerful and sociable, able to even make friends and mingle with the rest of the village without issue. Other children who were initially afraid of him came to see him as a friend like any other. Aside from a few initial hiccups, he was seemingly accepted by most of his peers, even if their parents did tell them to be careful around that Yuki boy. Though initially reluctant, he eventually joined the academy where it was discovered he had a natural talent with ninjutsu, especially his clan's bloodline technique. Water and ice came to him easily, even if he didn't seem to be very motivated. According to his caretaker, it was because he was a 'gentle child'. Regardless, in spite of poor attendance and mediocre test scores, his other aptitudes were enough to help him graduate without issue.
[break][break]
Shortly after becoming a genin proper, the head of the Yuki family surprised everyone with an announcement. Owing to his natural talent with the clan's kekkei genkai and his ability to integrate with the rest of the village seemingly without issue, Arata had been chosen to be trained as the head's successor and future leader of the Yuki clan. Everyone around him was excited, but Arata himself was completely aghast. It was an odd realization- that his playing pretend has fooled even the head of the clan.
[break][break]
In reality, the always-smiling and friendly young man resented Kirigakure with every fiber of his being. He didn't want to go to the academy because he didn't want to lift a finger to help the village that seemed so content to mock and ostracize his family. He lied to the other kids to make his own life easier, yet they came to like and almost admire him. It was almost enough to shake his resolve to despise them, if it wasn't for how quickly they'd pretend they didn't know him when their parents came around and started glaring. This was the village that denied him a father, killed his mother, and then tried to act like he was the threat. The monster. Everyone disgusted him. He grew talented at hiding his distaste, his hatred, but it never went away. His intent for the longest time was to simply waste time and find ways to entertain himself that didn't involve helping or serving the village. And now he was supposed to become head of the clan, the bridge between the Yuki and the rest of Kirigakure?
[break][break]
Gross.
[break][break]
Unable to talk his way out of it, the current plan is simple- just be as much of a worthless layabout as possible until the head of the family reneges on their decision and makes someone else the heir. Should be easy enough, right? Then, he can return to his life of doing easy assignments and using the money he earns to buy more clothes or treats.
[break][break]
Although, there's been another idea popping in his head as of late. If he became head of the family, maybe he could.. well, that's a dangerous line of thought, even for him. A path to revenge is the last thing he needed handed to him. Still, if the world gives you a blade, it'd be a shame not to use it.. right?
