From his expressions to his demeanor, Kurai is someone who tends to be all business and little playsave for any hijinks he unfortunately finds himself dragged into . He sports broad shoulders and an athletic build from years of honing his body through training. His back and left shoulder are riddled with scars from previous encounters. He tends to wear his special shinobi uniform either with or without the vest but there are moments where he may wear nice suits.

Takahashi Kurai was born in Kirigakure to a loving mother and strict but protective father. Kurai’s father and father before him were shinobi, both specializing in the ways of Kenjutsu. Growing up, Kurai became fond of swords and ninja to no surprise, listening to his father’s countless stories whenever he was not helping his mother. Although he enjoyed his father’s stories, Kurai took a real liking to the stories of his late grandfather and the sword he wielded, a large butcher knife-like blade and the rumors of it being able to repair itself through blood. The sword remained on a mantel above the fireplace in his parent’s house where Kurai often admired it from afar.[break]
[break]Kurai wanted to not only become a shinobi, but an exceptional swordsman as well.[break]
[break]Kurai’s father also has a deep seeded hatred towards the current Shodai Mizukage and his tyrannical rule, blaming him for the death of Kurai’s Grandfather. Despite this, the father still had a love for this village, believing it will become better one day.[break]
[break]Kurai began to get a bit of training from his father, but as soon as he was old enough, he was enrolled into the Academy where his training would start going into full effect.[break]
[break]Young Kurai proved to be rather exceptional in his classes, being among one of the best during his time. Still, due to the harshness of even the Academy, there were other students there that looked down on Kurai, seeing him as inferior due to his clanless blood. It even got to the point where the other students tried to beat the ever living crap out of Kurai just because they believed he was lesser…but Kurai wasn’t the type to sit there and take it.[break]
[break]Kurai would not only prove himself capable but almost merciless as he started beating down whoever tried to bully him to the point that hardly anyone bothers him anymore. Although it was subtle, this experience here was the start of Kurai’s thirst for battle, despite his calm demeanor never changing. Despite his assertion of dominance, the torment Kurai would go through in the Academy had only just begun…[break]
[break]Kurai had the displeasure of being acquainted with one Akimichi Choyoyo. Despite whatever prowess she presented, Kurai just found her annoying to be around due to her…eating habits and easygoing nature which to him looked like pure laziness. But even though she had a tendency to…throw karaage at his head, he still tolerated her presence to an extent. But he did count the days where he would finally graduate and be away from her for good…[break]
[break]However….[break]
[break]Once graduated from the Academy, Kurai was recognized as a full-fledged Genin and placed in Squad Ten….with that very same kunoichi and one other. Kurai was not exactly thrilled, but he made due. He made sure to learn more about Choyoyo’s and their other teammate’s skills to better work together when needed.[break]
[break]He continued to work hard on himself, especially his swordsmanship. He had started hitting the bookstore more, looking for things to read up on to better his ability with the blade. It was there that the ever stoic Kurai would develop a surprising interest in…romance novels on the side after checking out one he had somehow mistaken for a sword training book. This was an interest he decided to keep to himself….despite how poorly he was at doing so.[break]
[break]At home, his training only grew rougher with his father to points where his mother no longer felt comfortable watching like she used to do. Still, Kurai endured as he always has.[break]
[break]Once the Chuunin Exams rolled around, Kurai was ready with the experience and missions he had gone through under his belt. Kurai passed the Exams with little to no problem…but the same couldn’t be said about his teammate, Choyoyo. The Akimichi failed the exams…which surprisingly left a sour taste in Kurai’s mouth, despite barely expressing it. No matter how annoyed he was with her, Kurai could not ignore her strengths, her potential. He knew she was better than this. Instead of fueling her with words of encouragement or pitying, Kurai goaded Choyoyo, being familiar with her competitive nature. She just needed to do the rest which Kurai believed in.[break]
[break]Not too long after, Kurai found himself among the Hunter-nin for his display in skills. He hunted down and executed many of the village’s missing ninja, earning him the moniker of “Bloodhound”.[break]
[break]Despite how well things were going for Kurai, tragedy would hit home real soon….[break]
[break]Kurai’s father was known for being someone who openly despises the Shodai Mizukage and that soon caught up with the man, leading to a public execution where all Kurai could do was watch in sheer horror. Despite how rough he was, Kurai loved his old man and in that moment, his father’s hatred…became his own. Fortunately for Kurai, he would get his revenge and more.[break]
[break]Kurai was eventually approached by another Hunter-nin, Yashiro, who desired to stage a coup against the Mizukage. With most others, Kurai would’ve been skeptical, but Yashiro was someone who was greatly revered and feared. Kurai believed in him so without hesitation, he agreed to help him as well as recommending a certain someone who could be of BIG help to his vision.[break]
[break]At the age of sixteen, Kurai was not only ready to avenge his father, but his grandfather as well as he donned the latter’s weapon, the Kubikiribōchō, fighting as one of the Seven Swordsmen, proving himself to being a very capable asset when the fighting broke out. It was a lengthy process, filled with politics and blood, but as the dust settled, Yashiro’s side rose as the victors.[break]
[break]Kurai had since been promoted to Jounin, remaining as one of the Seven Swordsmen where his reputation continued to grow for three years…proud of being able to make his father’s dream come true.[break]
