Almost always in an open-front shirt or jacket, which he attributes to 'never finding clothes his size'. Wears his forehead protector as a belt, and a large black half-cape with the characters 爆遁 'BAKUTON' written down the spine. Is covered in scars from chest to toe, yet somehow doesn't have a single one on his neck or face.

Tragic beginnings are far from uncommon for shinobi. Bloodlines supported by war, villages determined to prove their might to keep balance between them.. and leaders reaching for more than they should. Sure, it wasn't quite as blood-soaked as the previous age, but even as the world marched forward there was still plenty of reason to sow discord. Such was the case for the instigator of the infamous Night of 1000 Earthquakes- Igarashi Isao.
[break][break]
Isao was considered a hero of Iwagakure, known for his efforts defending the village and attempts to bring the prosperity that once graced their to the new settlement they called home. An Anbu Jonin, a prodigy with Earth Release capable of even the most complex and difficult techniques, and once considered a strong contender for the position of Tsuchikage. It often seemed the only thing he was missing was a kekkei genkai or prestigious bloodline, but the Igarashi family was a relatively small one with no noteworthy members outside of Isao himself. A lack of prestige isn't always something that matters, but the elders of the village did make a bit of a ruckus about it. After all, how could someone whose family only joined the town a generation ago possibly uphold the Will of Stone?
[break][break]
Though it seemed he didn't care one way or the other, something began to build inside of Isao. He was a man known for his stoic determination- truly like the stone he manipulated. There was no sign of discontentment with the current regime until the day things finally exploded. In a single night, Isao used his mastery of earth to level several houses and killed multiple village elders. Was he angry with the way he was treated? Unsatisfied with his standing in spite of his skills? The truth may never be known. The only way to stop him was with force, and by daybreak, the hero of the Stone was nothing but a body half-buried in rubble. Igarashi Hanako had already passed the year before from illness, so all that was left of the family was their six year-old son, Isamu.
[break][break]
Being the son of a rebel and murderer did nothing to make the young boy's life easier. With no family left willing to take him in, the task was left, somehow, in the hands of one of the remaining elders- the retired former leader of the Blast Corps, Sakegami Taika. While a few voices called out for the boy to be killed or cast out for his father's crimes, Sakegami had another idea. The boy wouldn't be held responsible for the crimes of another, but he would be carefully watched to ensure he would be a loyal member of the village. He would be raised in the traditional Sakegami manner. A brutal upbringing, one that would either shape him into a powerful shinobi and weapon for the village or break him before he could rebel. The others agreed, and his private training began.
[break][break]
Years of grueling training and treatment that could only be called abusive followed, but little Isamu never complained. Did he have the right to, really? Even at such a young age he knew his father had done something terrible. People openly gossiped, and his foster father (who he was strictly not allowed to call 'father', ever) made no effort to conceal the truth of his past. He was taught one thing above all- he would make himself useful to Iwagakure, or he would be cast out entirely. So he devoted himself to the honing of his body and his abilities. Luckily for him, he seemed to have a gift for the shinobi arts.

By the time he actually joined the academy, he was already beyond the skill level of the average genin- not to mention more scarred than most chunin. He showed an aptitude for taijutsu and Earth Release, able to overpower opponents twice his age. Helped that he hit his growth spurt early. He didn't make friends in the academy- his father's reputation proceeded him, after all- but he was able to graduate a year ahead of his peers. By the time many were first forming their genin teams, he was attending his first set of chunin exams. When he failed in the final stage, his foster father gave him a distinct scar carved into his chest. 'A strike for every failure,' he promised. The next year there would be no room for error, and he made chunin by the age of 14.
[break][break]
The years that followed were a mixed bag. His skills spoke for themselves, but he quickly gained a reputation as well. Difficult to work with and impossible to control, any fight turned into a brawl the moment he got involved. But most of those brawls he won, so he continued to distinguish himself more and more. He made Jonin by twenty, and joined the Explosion Corps just two years later. Being trained by the former leader of the Corps gave him a unique level of familiarity with the secret technique, and having been trained on both natures since youth made him a natural. He seemed to be shaking the shade of his past, even making it to the position of Captain in just a few short years.

Isamu had gone from a closed-off ball of suppressed emotions to a loud, fun-loving guy known for his positive attitude and friendly demeanor. Some of his peers considered him a bit of a meat-head, a 'punch first, ask questions later' kind of guy, but a combination of his genuine cheer and casual ruthlessness made him a dangerously effective leader. Out of the Sakegami house and unconcerned with what anyone else thought of him, he thought he'd shrugged off the chains laid on his shoulders by the village.. until his elderly foster father suddenly told him one day he would be the next jinchuriki of the Yonbi.
[break][break]
The news was sudden, laid out to him as simple fact. They needed a sturdy vessel to replace the ailing jinchuriki he was currently sealed within. Someone unfailingly loyal to the village and strong enough to keep himself and the beast within out of enemy hands. Sakegami had offered up Isamu's name, and for whatever reason, he was chosen. Was it because he was expendable? Or did his tutor think that the unwavering loyalty carved into his body was simply that strong? Whatever the case, he was given only days to prepare himself before the sealing ritual was carried out.
[break][break]
The transfer went off without a hitch- an excruciatingly painful experience that left Isamu on death's doorstep for days. When he had finally recovered, he had a new companion. Son Goku, as the Yonbi called himself, was deeply resentful of his missed opportunity at freedom. A sentiment Isamu himself could really understand. Strangely, rather than finding the angry, oversized ape to be intimidating or irritating, Isamu took a shine to him pretty quick. The same couldn't be said from Son Goku. Still, the two talk fairly often, and the human is less concerned with getting his abilities than he is with making friends. Maybe this new shackle wouldn't be so bad?
